電気脱イオン処理(EDI)を行う際は、イオン交換樹脂と膜技術、電極を組み合わせて使用します。これは、再生用の薬品を必要としない処理方式であり、通常は脱塩の初期工程が完了した後の最終段階、いわゆるポリッシングの工程で適用されます。
