Overview
The OPTIMASS 5400 is an economical Coriolis mass flowmeter for standard process applications involving gases and liquids. The compact twin semi-bent tube device combines direct mass flow, density and temperature measurement with comprehensive information on volume flow, concentration and velocity, as well as extensive device and process related diagnostics.
Lightweight eco-design & best-in-class price/performance ratio
The OPTIMASS 5400 was developed with sustainability considerations in mind and is designed to significantly reduce handling effort. It features a lightweight and eco-friendly case design. The device requires significantly fewer materials and contains fewer components than comparable Coriolis flowmeters of previous generations. As a result, weight and installation height for transport and commissioning can be considerably reduced. In this way, KROHNE supports the sustainability goals of companies that set great store by the resource- and energy-efficient production of their equipment.
Compared with other commercially available Coriolis meters in its class, this general-purpose flowmeter offers an outstanding price/performance ratio, with features typically found only in significantly more expensive instruments. It provides a wider turndown ratio than comparable Coriolis meters and can handle elevated process temperatures of up to +180°C / +356°F and pressures of up to 100 barg / 1450 psig. Its outer casing provides a typical burst pressure resistance of up to 200 barg / 2900 psig, delivering an effective second line of defence and increasing safety.
Versatile application range – from chemicals and marine to food and pharmaceuticals
This makes the general-purpose flowmeter the ideal solution for a wide range of industrial process and utility applications. Typical uses include flow control of chemicals and hydrocarbons. Due to its space-saving design, the meter is also ideally suited for use in mobile and portable installations on trucks, rail tankers or portable rigs in non-custody transfer applications. Featuring a wide range of marine approvals, the OPTIMASS 5400 also qualifies as the instrument of choice for consumption measurement of marine fuels such as MDO (Marine Diesel Oil) and MGO (Marine Gas Oil) on ships.
Being EHEDG- and 3A-certified and available with a wide range of hygienic process connections, the meter is also well suited for food, beverage and pharmaceutical applications involving media with low to moderate viscosities. When installed vertically, it is self-draining and designed to withstand CIP (Clean-in-Place) processes using acids and hot water as well in Sterilisation-in-Place (SIP) processes with saturated steam.
Entrained Gas Management & modular electronics
Like all KROHNE Coriolis flowmeters equipped with the MFC 400 signal converter, the OPTIMASS 5400 features EGM™ (Entrained Gas Management), enabling stable measurement across a wide range of gas fractions and complex flow conditions. EGM™ also provides two-phase flow indication for monitoring the Gas Volume Fraction (GVF) in liquids.
The meter features modular electronics with a comprehensive range of output options. It supports Ethernet-based field-level communication, including PROFINET over Ethernet-APL (Advanced Physical Layer) and EtherNet/IP™, as well as numerous classic bus systems.
Bluetooth® connectivity & OPTICHECK technology built-in diagnostics
Bluetooth® connectivity, in combination with a mobile device and the OPTICHECK Flow Mobile app, enables convenient commissioning, monitoring and on-site verification from a distance. A verification report can be generated at the push of a button, which is particularly beneficial in hard-to-access installation environments. For remote services from the control room, the OPTICHECK DTM is available.
Equipped with OPTICHECK technology built-in diagnostics, the flowmeter provides 24/7 monitoring of device health and application status. This gives operators detailed insights into both the instrument and the process, supporting condition-based maintenance and process optimisation.
