The power of independence:
The new WATERFLUX

KROHNE introduces the new WATERFLUX water meter: Thanks to extremely short inlets and outlets, the WATERFLUX can even be installed in very narrow standpipes or shafts and still provide excellent measuring accuracy. The device complies with custody transfer requirements as per OIML R-49 and MI-001.

In terms of pressure loss and long-term stability, the WATERFLUX, an electromagnetic water meter, is far superior to mechanical water meters. In addition, it offers crucial price advantages over mechanical meters for large nominal sizes as costs for the filters and rectifiers needed in some cases, as well as maintenance and cleaning work, are eliminated.

Stand-alone battery operation up to 15 years
In the case of remote measuring stations, it is often not possible to connect to the power supply. That is why the WATERFLUX can also be combined with the IFC 070 converter, whose integrated battery provides power for measurement for up to 15 years. This long life cycle is made possible thanks to the unique sensor design, which results in extremely low power consumption of the WATERFLUX components.

When there is no power supply, there is usually no wiring to the control system either. For this reason, the user is dependent on remote data transmission in the case of extremely remote water sources, standpipes or network transfer points. Data loggers and GSM transmitters can be optionally ordered as compact modules for the WATERFLUX.

WATERFLUX is available in nominal sizes ranging from DN 25 to DN 600. Instead of the battery-operated IFC 070, the WATERFLUX can also be fitted with the tried and true IFC 100 and IFC 300 converters. This allows even those industries that usually have supply voltage at all measuring points to benefit from the advantages of the unique sensor design.

The new generation in accuracy for natural gas measurement: ALTOSONIC V12

Natural gas is one of the most important resources of our time. At the same time it is also one of the best and globally most widely used energy carriers.

At the beginning of the year, KROHNE introduced the ALTOSONIC V12, the new generation of ultrasonic gas flowmeters. It is the first ultrasonic meter for natural gas with an accuracy class of 0.5 as per OIML R137, previously reserved for turbine type meters. The ALTOSONIC V12 is typically used in custody transfer applications at large natural gas producers, in the distributor networks of gas transport companies or with large-scale consumers such as refineries and power plants. In addition to high measuring accuracy, the ALTOSONIC V12 offers considerable design advantages that give it an edge over comparable solutions.

An investment that quickly pays for itself:
If you take into account the purchase cost in relation to the value of the natural gas measured, the ALTOSONIC V12 pays for itself in a very short period of time. For example: A power plant draws about 680 million cubic meters of gas per year using a gas pipeline with a DN 200 diameter. At a price of 0.30 €/m³, the supplier invoices around 204 million euros. In this case, the ALTOSONIC V12 with its compensatory functions cuts uncertainty by approx. 50 % compared to existing solutions. By using the ALTOSONIC V12, the power plant could monitor accounts more precisely, which, in the best case scenario, would mean a savings of over 1 million euros per year compared to measuring with conventional ultrasonic meters. This sum makes the purchase cost seem like nothing.

More efficiency: Innovative solutions for energy measurement

The process industry is eagerly awaiting this year's INTERKAMA. As always, the topic of plant efficiency is in the foreground. Increasing efficiency in production plants requires precise measurement of the resources and energies used. The only way to implement reasonable cost saving measures is to know how much you are consuming and wasting. Modern measuring technology has an important contribution to make in this respect. To this end, KROHNE provides you with solutions especially designed for the measurement of energy carriers, e.g. an extensive portfolio for gas and steam measurement.

Visit us at the Hannover Messe INTERKAMA, 20/04. – 24/04.2009, Hall 7, Stand C13. We will gladly introduce you firsthand to the WATERFLUX and ALTOSONIC V12.

Process analysis technology: KROHNE offers reliability when measuring minimal volumes

Process analysis technology is an important instrument when it comes to guaranteeing process safety and when indicating quality. That is why standardisation to IEC 61508 applies here too, i.e. process analysis systems including integrated flowmeters are also taken into account when considering the safety of measurement of critical applications.

This also includes classification according to the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) of the measuring devices used, for example, in the supply lines of gas analysers for flow indication. To put it simply, the SIL rating of a flowmeter is a gauge for measuring its suitability for use as part of a protective device to reduce risk of false measurement.

Specifically for this area, KROHNE now introduces its DK32/34/37 variable area flowmeters with suitability as per SIL 2 for measuring liquids from 0.2 l/h and gases from 2 l/h. For larger flow rates, the tried and true variable area classic H250 with SIL 2 classification has been in use since 2005 in circles where safety is of prime importance. The DK32/34/37 with inductive limit switches are designed for use in SIL 2 applications. This includes both the basic variant and the variant featuring an optional differential pressure regulator or flange connection adapter.
