FPSO goes ultrasonic in Brazil
Petrobras, Brazil's largest oil company, is using intrinsically-safe double beam ultrasonic flowmeters from KROHNE on it's FPSO (Floating Production Storage & Offloading) vessel destined for the Espadarte Field in the campos Basin, off the south-east coast of Brazil. The order was placed through Swiss engineering contractors Single Buoy Mooring of Monaco who is the contractor for the refurbishment, conversion, installation and operation of the FPSO.
Color coded and supplied in a range of sizes (4in - 26in/DN100-DN650), the ultrasonic flowmeters will be used for a variety of flow measurement duties, including produced water from the test and production separators, crude oil from the production separator, dead crude and for the offloading of crude oil. A number of units will also be installed in a duty/standby meter assembly.
The Key reasons for choosing ultrasonic flowmeters from KROHNE were that they do not obstruct the flow, they feature a large dynamic range and have extremely high accuracy and repeatability.
The KROHNE ultrasonic flowmeters supplied to Petrobras are ideal for offshore applications, as they are compact in design, are certified for use in hazardous areas, can be supplied in the material requested, such as duplex, and were colour coded to identify their location on the platform.
