Two new flowmeters for filling machines
High long-term stability proven by PTB tests

BATCHFLUX 5500 C

Duisburg, 15 September 2009: KROHNE will introduce two new flowmeters for filling machines at this year's Drinktec: BATCHFLUX 5500 and OPTIBATCH 4011. Both devices feature extremely high reproducibility, low weight and a small, compact design.

BATCHFLUX 5500 is a so-called filling EMF; an electromagnetic flowmeter for the measurement and dosing of conductive liquids such as juice, beer and milk products. BATCHFLUX 5500 is the smallest filling EMF on the market; it is also the only device with gap-free, fused-in-place Cermet electrodes to meet maximum hygienic requirements. The measuring tube is made of extremely durable ceramic which features high pressure stability as well as high temperature shock resistance and remains stable during common hot water or steam cleanings. Extremely high long-term stability of these devices was proved during cooperative research between KROHNE and the PTB (National Metrology Institute).

During the tests, the devices were subjected to a total of 600 simulated CIP cleaning cycles, one after the other, followed by another 60 sterilisations with hot steam. That corresponds to a device life of approximately 4-5 years in average operation. The tests showed that the ceramic devices had an average deviation of only 0.05% compared to the tests in new condition, as well as stable reproducibility at various flow rates. They were about six times as stable as comparable devices with plastic liners.

OPTIBATCH 4011 C

OPTIBATCH 4011 is a Coriolis mass flowmeter with two measuring tubes which can dose conducting and non-conducting liquids or pastes by mass or volume. Despite its extremely compact design, OPTIBATCH has an integrated electronics system, making a separate signal converter unnecessary. In addition to an aseptic flange as per DIN11864-2, a series of hygienic clamp connections as well as other process connections in keeping with customer specifications are available. The device has already proven itself in practice: In a pilot project, 6 OPTIBATCH devices were used in a linear filling machine for the Italian manufacturer Fimer. The devices dose olive oil with a density of 920kg/m³ into 1l or 1.5l bottles, the mass flow is 12kg/min.

About KROHNE: Established in 1921, the family business of KROHNE employs 2,510 people around the world and has representatives on all continents. The company has its headquarters in Duisburg, Germany and develops, manufactures and sells products in the field of measuring technology, standing for innovation and superior product quality. KROHNE is one of the market leaders in industrial process measuring technology.
