OSG chooses OPTIWAVE and CARGOMASTER again
(June 2008)
KROHNE Skarpenord has won the contract for delivering cargo level gauging systems to OSG’s newbuildings (Overseas Shipholding Group) in Korea. The 6 tankers are 73.000 dwt oil carriers, and will be delivered by SPP Shipbuilding in Tongyeong from 2010 until end 2011. SPP has a long track record of building tankers, and is recognized for delivering high quality ships. One reason for OSG to choose CARGOMASTER® again was our OPTIWAVE cargo level radar, designed to keep operational costs at a minimum. The stand-alone OPTIWAVE radars with local indication are not affected by main system faults like potential computer crashes.
Should a computer or common I/O component fail during critical cargo operations, the operators may continue closed loading or discharging with the radar’s local ullage indication.
In competing systems, broken central components may lead to an off-hire situation as level indication in cargo tanks is mandatory for loading. The OPTIWAVE overcomes this in it’s design and manner of operation. We know all the potential cost for a day of off-hire. KROHNE Skarpenord secured the contract facing hard competition. The yard found our system to be easy to install due to compact design and easy cabling. The final decision was made by OSG in USA and Greece.
Last year, OSG chose to install CARGOMASTER® and OPTIWAVE on their 4 new Aframax tankers in New Times shipyard in China. The first vessel will be delivered in July 08. With this new contract with SPP in Korea, it shows that OSG has found our solutions for tank measurements beneficial for the operation.
OSG has a fleet of more than 100 tankers; VLCCs, Aframaxes, Panamaxes, Lightering vessels, MRs and others operating world wide. They are recognized as one of the key players in the world of tanker shipping, and have their ships connected to different pools defined by size. SPP has more than 60 tankers on order for delivery until 2012.
