OPTIMASS: Measuring TetrafluoroethyleneMeasuring gas with Coriolis mass flowmeters
Coriolis mass flowmeters are also increasingly being chosen for gas measurement.
Asahi Glass Fluoropolymers Ltd, UK employs KROHNE’s straight tube Coriolis mass flowmeters for the vital measurement of Tetrafluoroethylene gas used in the manufacture of Fluon®, a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The meters measure the density and temperature of the gas as well as the mass flow, and are all fitted with pressure containment housings to ensure high operational dependability. Asahi senior project manager, Bryan Holme, says: "A straight tube is particularly important in this application because sharp bends and obstructions in the pipe work may cause local polymerisation of the gas.
A further element in favour of the meter is the fact that it has only 2 process connections, which limits the potential number of leak paths.” Asahi Glass Fluoropolymers UK trialled the straight-tube meter against another manufacturer's bent tube design, and the company's engineers were so impressed with the accuracy and reliability of the results, they ordered 5 KROHNE devices to replace the plant's existing obsolete vortex flowmeters.
