UFM 3030 ultrasonic measuring device receives type-approval certificate under German law as cold meter
Suitable for energy balancing of cold energy in custody transfer applications

Duisburg, April 15, 2010: The UFM 3030 ultrasonic flowmeter now features type-approval certificate under German law as a cold meter. This means the device can be used for commercial purposes and for custody transfer applications. The customer base for cold meters is predominantly made up of public utilities and operators of refrigeration networks.

The principle behind cold energy measurement is identical to that of warm energy measurement: In both cases, a flowmeter along with two temperature sensors and a calculator are used to bill cold or warm energy. One typical application for cold energy measurement would be a large refrigerating machine that serves a business or a building. Air conditioning units use the supplied cold to cool the surrounding air and return warm water. The cold energy consumed can be calculated using the flow volume measured by the UFM 3030 and the difference in temperature between the supply and return.

The meters in existing plants can easily be replaced without changing the existing application as the UFM 3030 flowmeter is available in a variety of installation lengths and for a wide range of minimum and permanent flows. The measuring device features 3 ultrasonic measuring paths, making measurement possible regardless of the flow profile. The UFM 3030 comes in the sizes DN 25 - DN 800 with a temperature range of 0°C…180°C and pressure ratings up to PN 40.
