Level measurement in open channels with OPTISOUND

OPTISOUND in the sewage treatment plant in Erlangen

Operators of sewage treatment plants are increasingly using KROHNE?s OPTISOUND ultrasonic sensor for continuous level measurement in open channels. OPTISOUND is in use in a relatively small channel in a sewage treatment plant in Herdwangen where, due to its efficiency, it has replaced the meter from another manufacturer.

In the sewage treatment plant in Erlangen, a Venturi measurement based on pressure measurement was in use. Here too, the operators of the sewage treatment plant had doubts as to the reliability of the measurement results and decided in favor of KROHNE. Since then, the measurements both in Erlangen and Herdwangen have proved to be reliable and stable.

At last year?s Interkama, KROHNE presented OPTISOUND ultrasonic level meter. The three main areas of application are open channels, process tanks and storage tanks. OPTISOUND is also intended for use in level measurement in basins, wastewater tanks, silos and flow detection on conveyor belts.

OPTISOUND ? compact ultrasonic sensor for continuous level measurement
OPTISOUND's measuring range lies between 0.25 and 45 meters, depending on the model and the medium. Three different sound transducers are available. OPTISOUND is easy to install and set up. Its measuring accuracy is +/- 10mm.

OPTISOUND 3010 and 3020 can be used for an operating pressure up to 2 bar and OPTISOUND 3030 for up to 1 bar. They are all rated for the same operating temperature, which ranges from -40 to +80°C.

The process connectors are PVDF screw threads; OPTISOUND 3030 is available with a collar flange or mounting bracket. The housing is either plastic, aluminum or stainless steel. KROHNE delivers OPTISOUND 3040 and 3050 for measuring bulk solids as a compact or remote version, with screw thread or flange connection and only in aluminum. All of the new ultrasonic level meters have a local indicator that is operated using keys on the meter. Bar charts, trends and echo curves, among others, can be called up. OPTISOUND's standard current output is 4?20mA and is HART-compatible. KROHNE offers the OPTISOUND series with a range of ATEX approvals and IP 66/68 protection class.
