KROHNE equips the POSCO steel works in KoreaAfter equipping the pilot plant for the new POSCO steel mill with flow measuring equipment, KROHNE has now received the follow-up order. The plant, which uses the FINEX process, has a capacity of 1.5 million tons of steel per year and KROHNE has supplied several hundred H250 all-metal variable area flowmeters for the facility.
POSCO also uses several hundred OPTIFLUX electro-magnetic flowmeters, some of which are the two-wire version. Some of the signal converters used are IFC 300's, which offer POSCO extensive diagnostic functions that give information about the process.
POSCO, which is among the most profitable steel producers in the world, has developed the FINEX process as a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly method of steel production. With this process around 15% of costs can be saved, and the emissions of sulfur and nitrogen compounds are significantly lower. POSCO also intends to implement the process in China, India and Southeast Asia.
