Come fly with KROHNE

BAA Gatwick is using electromagnetic flowmeters from KROHNE as part of a sophisticated heat metering system to precisely calculate energy consumption by a number of administration buildings owned by different airlines at the airport. These calculations are vital to ensure that each tenant is accurately charged for the exact amount of heating and air conditioning it has used.
Before installation of the KROHNE instrumentation, manual calculations were used which could result in complaints and disputes with tenants.
The buildings concerned are located at the North and South terminals and are supplied by two boilers. The KROHNE flowmeters have been installed on both the medium pressure network and the high pressure/high temperature network.
The same system has also been installed on each building's cooling water supply to calculate consumption for the air conditioning system.
As one of the networks at Gatwick is a high pressure hot water system (15 bar, 175C), KROHNE supplied the electromagnetic flowmeters with PFA liners which can accomodate temperatures as high as 180C and pressures as high as 40 bar, and the heat calculators with stainless steel probes for temperatrues as high as 250C.
The order for the KROHNE's system was placed through JR M&E Services Ltd, BAA Gatwick's mechanical service contractor who designs, supplies and installs heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems on the airport.
Since installation at Gatwick, the flowmeters have performed well giving accurate heat consumption readings. KROHNE is one of very few suppliers able to automatically convert such calculations and display them as kilowatt readings.
