For their new VLCCs in Hyundai Heavy Industries, Ulsan, Korea, Dynacom selected our CARGOMASTER® cargo level radar system. The ships are for delivery from 2011. The yard was asked to include us in the makers list as Dynacom found our technical benefits unbeaten. The contract is a great achievement for KROHNE Skarpenord, as the shipowner has been a true customer to our main competitors for many years.
The technical staff of Dynacom has been looking at our system for a long time, and has found the technical benefits very useful for their operation. Local indication of cargo ullage/level enables the operator to continue cargo operations even without a cargo monitoring system running. Today major oil companies may not allow loading of cargo if the cargo monitoring system is out of order. With the OPTIWAVE installed, they can allow loading as it is approved as a stand-alone system in itself. Having a man on deck following the local indication provided directly on the radar’s screen, will fulfill the requirements for closed loading.
Our Korean partner, Scana Korea, will support the yard during the design and building process. All questions regarding installation and operation are will be handled locally, which is of high value to the yard. Also, full commissioning of the system will be performed by our Korean partner.
These contracts not only represents a large value for KROHNE Skarpenord, but manifests our position in the Korean market.
