These days sensor and actuator systems placed in the panel for the automation of technical processes are often still connected to control and master data surfaces via the 0/4...20mA interface. The advantage of this interface lies in the easy to handle technology as well as the broad distribution.

In this age of communication technology a one-sided monologue, as presented by the transmission of measurement data over the 0/4...20mA-interface of the automation system, is no longer sufficient.
