UFM 800W

Measuring oil and gas with ultrasonic: KROHNE combines ultrasonics with Hot Tapping technology

The new UFM 800 W Hot Tapping Ultrasonic Flow Meter from KROHNE enables the retrofit installation of measurement sensors in operational pipelines without interrupting the process.
The UFM 800 W sensors are designed for the volumetric measurement of flow rates of process liquids in closed metal pipelines with inside diameters of DN 500 - DN 5000.
Ultrasonic technology also enables flow totalisation, and transit time measurement that can be used to determine product type or product changes.
The UFM 800 W is suitable for all sectors of the water and wastewater industries, and many other industrial sectors like the oil & gas industry for which ultrasonic flow measurement is the preferred technology, due to its ease of installation even in hazardous areas.
To install a UFM 800 W sensor, the socket is welded to the pipeline, and the valve fitted and closed. The hot tapping drill is then mounted, and the valve opened. A hole is cut in the pipe wall, and then the cutter and cutout are removed. The valve is then closed and the hot tapping drill taken out. The carrier is mounted, the sensor insertion tool is mounted onto the valve, the valve is opened, and finally the ultrasonic sensor is inserted and aligned.
The unit, which is IP 67 rated (equivalent to NEMA 6), is able to function with product temperatures from -50 deg.C to +170 deg.C, with an ambient temperature range from -25 deg.C to +60 deg.C. It can operate in a pressure range to max. 40 bar / max. 580 psig.
KROHNE is a leading manufacturer of level and flow measurement instrumentation, and offers a complete range of flowmeters, including electromagnetic, ultrasonic, vortex, variable area and Coriolis. Its level meter range includes continuous contact and non-contact ultrasonic and radar systems.
