BM 70 for woodchips in paper millProblem
A paper mill needed to measure the level of wood chips in a 55 ft. tall bin. Steam is infused into the bin to soften the chips which are then fed into a digestor. The mill needed to maintain constant level and tried both ultrasonic and nuclear devices. The steam made the readings vary too much. When the bin ran dry, major downtime would result; when the bin overfilled, a maintenance headache ensued.
Solution
KROHNE Representative Tom Foster installed a demo BM 70A Radar Level Gauge over a manhole. It worked like a champ the very first time. He sold it on a 30 day trial, but the unit never faltered and the customer bought three additional units. Total savings is difficult to determine, however prior to installing the BM 70A, the plant lost $10,000 per hour for each time the bin overflowed or ran dry. The customer was elated with his $8,000 solution and recommends the KROHNE BM 70A to other paper mills.
