KROHNE provides continuous flow and level measurement
To acquire level and flow measurements which are a critical element of its process control systems, Phoenix Chemcials in Bromborough, a specialist manufacturer of fine chemcials, is using a vast array of level and flow meters from KROHNE Ltd.
Phoenix Chemicals' core expertise is in the use of continuous processing systems capable of handling difficult chemcial reactions involving such substances as diazomethane, azides, nitromethane, diborane, hydrazine and bromine.
Phoenix Chemcials is using Corimass mass flow meters from KROHNE on its recently installed diazomethane continuous manufacturing facility. It prefers mass flow meters over volumetric flow meters are they give better control over the product quality, particulary if the densities or concentrations vary during processing.
KROHNE's proven G+ Class single straight tube Coriolis meter is used on high flow processes while the E Class single bent tube mass meters is used for low flows.
Phoenix Chemicals is also using a range of radar level meters from KROHNE due to their accuracy and non-contact properties. Non contact instrumentation is important for cGMP reasons and when dealing with corrosive chemicals without endangering personnel.
KROHNE's BM700 level gauge has been supplied which uses electromagentic waves (micro waves) for continuous and non contact level measurement of liquids, slurries and pastes in closed metal tanks. They are also ideal for operation in extreme and exceptionally difficult conditions. In line with Phoenix's specifications, KROHNE has also supplied a number of BM70 radar level meters with a Profibus interface enabling them to be integrated into Phoenix Chemical's digital communications system.
As the chemcials often contain methylene chloride which is extremely corrosive, the flow and level instrumentation has been supplied with contact materials in stainless steel 316 and PTFE. For those processes containing HCI, the contact materials were supplied as Hastelloy.
The nature of its business means Phoenix Chemicals demands competitive prices combined with rapid deliveries, and that all instrumentation installed must be suitable for use in Zone 1 hazardous areas.
In addition to mass flow meters and radar level meters, Phoenix Chemicasl also uses a number of variable area and electromagnetic flowmeters from KROHNE for specific duties on certain processes.
