BM 100: Polystyrene Granule Level Measurement

This is a TBF application with a 13 metre probe length, on four juxtaposed silos in Switzerland.

There are two interesting point on this application:The first confirms our rapid success in powder and granules storage market. The market is huge and there is little competition. The BM 100 price is very attractive, even when compared to ultrasonic meters. As the BM 100 is a static instrument there is no performance comparison with motorized level meters, the BM 100 has a low price and zero maintenance costs.

We now have substantial expert evaluation of bulk storage up to 45 m; for taller tanks, the main problem is the enormous load on the cable and thus on the roof. Our test with 60 m silos have been successful.

The second interest is to show you that even with a dielectric constant of 1.5 we can use the Direct mode for level measurement, and this up to several metres. Actually we have stated a min. epsilon r = 2 in our literature, so for liquid CO2, liquid propane, LPG and LNG it is possible to use the Direct mode on small tanks.
