Abstract Expressionism

The essence of Akai's practice as a painter is a mixture of Abstract Expressionism, constructive art making and Asian painting creating its own color cosmology, with western ideas of concrete art and highly abstract Japanese painting provoking a new dimension.

In these concrete paintings we get a glimpse of the landscapes of our worlds and our souls and yet nothing is revealed but appearance. The painter melds different understandings of reality into one view (Weltbild). Transmitted by our senses but without any necessity to please, we realize there is more than meets the eye . What is visualized through the use of Asian and European aesthetics are reflections on the very existence of sensuality and being itself.
